Here are the slides from the Rising 9th Grade Open House Academic Session. These slides will help guide your decisions on each subject area course placements, including the difference between academic versus honors level courses, and elective selections.
For current students of WCPSS middle schools, your registration will be completed with your middle school counselor. Please direct your questions to your 8th grade counselor. Check with your middle school counselor about their registration dates and deadlines.
Rising 9th graders from Charter, Private and Homeschools will first need to complete the online enrollment process. A Registration Workshop will be held on March 21 at 2:45 pm to assist students and parents with selecting classes. Families that are unable to attend the Registration Workshop can contact Mr. Greene for assistance in course selections.
Please note: Classes are not scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no advantage to entering selections in PowerSchool or submitting your course list to Mr. Greene at an earlier time.
For current 8th grade students, the Application for the Game Design Academy is now open. Links to the informational flyer and the presentation can be found on the application. Applications are due on April 28.

Registration Process for Current LRHS Students
- Students will receive registration packets and watch the registration video in their 2nd period classes on March 4.
- Counselors review each student’s transcript before they meet with the student.
- Counselors will meet with students in small groups. A Registration Card is completed that indicates completed graduation requirements and those requirements that remain. This is the first priority.
- The level of classes such as honors or AP level is not listed by the counselor, but is discussed. Please review your teacher recommendations; counselors defer to this when suggesting level of class.
- All students MUST register for 8 primary classes and 4 alternate classes. Alternate choices are different from your top 8 choices.
- Seniors who wish to graduate mid-year or have release time must register for 8 classes and then submit a Release Time form or Mid-Year Graduation form by the end of April.
- Students and parents should consider the options that are best for the particular student by consulting teachers and the counselors.
- The counselors are available to answer questions about class selections in regards to level and how classes fit into the goals for the student.
- If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to the counselors.

Registration "To Do" List
- Log on to your PowerSchool account to view your credits and teacher recommendations.
- Review graduation requirements.
- Review course information (prerequisites, class content).
- Talk with your teachers about their recommendations.
- Talk with your parents/guardian about your class selections.
- Please come to your meeting with your counselor with some idea of the classes you would like to take.
- If you wish to take a class that requires an application or audition, you may go ahead and sign up for the class. However, you will be removed from the class and placed in one of your alternates if you are not selected for the audition or application class. Be sure to communicate with any teacher whose classes requires an Application or Audition (list of teachers is below).
- Enter your classes into PowerSchool by March 29. It is best to access WakeID/PowerSchool through a laptop or desktop, not on a phone.
Please note: Classes are not scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no advantage to entering selections in PowerSchool earlier in the registration window.
Once you have entered classes, you will have completed the initial registration process for 2025-2025. Making your class requests does not guarantee your enrollment in the class. Budget and staffing issues may make it necessary to remove classes from the offerings at any time.
- Thus, it is very important that you register for classes, including alternates, that you have a true interest in taking.
- Changes requested after you receive your schedule in August may be difficult to honor.
